Waumiss is a duo from North Carolina who claim they sound like “a hummingbird fart” and reference their influences to “beats, beers, flowers, reverb, bike rides, puppies, and bar*b*cues”. To say the least these guys are pretty out there and their sound reflects their creativity. Their debut album consists of 11 originals and 4 remixes including one by Wilco’s Keyboardist Mikael Jorgensen. Most of the songs don’t break 3 minuets and there is no real continuity which causes it to be a jumpy and scattered album. This creates a sort of distortion for the listener as they are brought from song to song leaving the last one not quite sure about what they heard and entering the next not even sure what is to come, but this seems to be what Waumiss was aiming for and it works really well. The more you listen through it the more you discover and the more you appreciate Waumiss’ sound. I for one am excited to see what the future holds for these guys.
