So Twice They Named It Nice
Jery Fels and the Jerry Fels
review by zampanoThe band’s name is short for “todo mezclado” or “all mixed up”. Tracks feature cumbia, meringue, salsa, hip-hop, reggaeton and more with a Western pop sensibility, but they never stray too far from the Music’s Cuban roots.
Personnel: Juan Kemell (vocals, trumpet); Yonaiky Gonzalez, Yoandri Castro, Lindiana Murphy, Alex D’lara (vocals); Yusi Gonzalez (piano, keyboards); Julio Montero (synthesizer); Rolando Salgado (conga drum); Yan Regueiro Garcia (guiro, maracas, shaker, percussion). Arranger: Julio Montero.

Hailing from Minneapolis, the land of our purple majesty Prince, Har Mar does his best to be the pudgy (and proud of it!) white Prince. The man’s got soul. A couple of the songs on this album were written for lady pop stars, but when he was unable to get buyers he sang them himself. Thus he sings about manicures and ladies night on “Girls Only” - and since it’s coming from Har Mar, it totally works.
As an overall album his schtick gets a little old, but for singles/radio I’d pump 2, 3, 7, 11. Song 4 (Tall Boy) is an FCC no no which is a shame because it’s pretty awesome.
Compilation of contemporary music from Iceland, the land that brought us Bjork, Mum and Sigur Ros. All of those artists are fairly experimental, and for the most part the music on this compilation is rather conventional. That doesn’t mean it’s not good, as I’d recommend checking out almost every track, it’s just not generally as progressive as their most famous countryfolk. Tracks with a * were especially good.
1,2*,4, 11*, 13, 14, 17 pop/ rock
10*, 12, 16 pretty folky stuff
5 electro
7 and 15* are sung in Icelandic!
9 is electronic nuttiness with silly shouted lyrics, reminds me of Thomas Dolby
