Victorian America

Emily Jane White

review by cmalina

Emily Jane White proves herself once again as a truly unique and talented artist with her newest album, Victorian America.  Her debut album, Dark Undercoat, was beautiful, with White’s powerful and strong vocals, but Victorian America is even more developed.  In every track on Victorian America, White’s prominent vocals are haunting and bone chilling.  White also appears in various tracks on the album playing guitar, piano, organ and percussion.  Other featured instruments include the violin, cello and upright bass.  This album is dark, somber and there is a lot of death imagery.  However, the album is not depressing, but rather it is thought provoking and well composed.  Victorian America is highly recommended and should definitely be listened to by all, especially if you are a fan of Cat Power and/or Alela Diane.
