Bottesini–Virtuoso Works for Double Bass and Strings
review by Laima
In the 1800’s, Italian music was dominated by opera (market laws and performance restrictions among other influences) and instrumental music was considered musically uninteresting. However, more respect is being afforded to those composers who did write instrumental works, Bottesini being one of them, and his works for double bass reflect a highly rational approach to the qualities of the instrument and its limits. Play any!
