Turbulent Winds–Music from Eastern Europe

review by Laima
Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Works from composers from Easter Europe (Ligeti, Haas, Szervansky, Farkas). Although the title is “Turbulent Winds”, these pieces are lyrical and expressive. The title refers to the socio-political history of the region. Play all!

Songs for the Soul–Chamber Music by African American Composers

review by Laima

These are beautiful pieces! Undine Smith Moore’s “Afro-American Suite  for flute, cello and piano” has that bittersweet quality of music from the turn of the last century. William Banfield’s “Soul Gone Home” with text by Langston Hughes, is decidely jazzy and Anthony Keller’s “Grist for the Mill” is abstract. Play all!
