The Chemicals EP

Elsinore

review by smoylan

“The Chemicals EP” is a surprisingly enjoyable collection of indie-pop songs. The title track starts with jangly and energetic Strokes-like guitars before evolving into an upbeat and melodic tune that wouldn’t be out of place on a Keane album. The EP then delves into some slower-paced tracks before picking up again with my personal favorite, “Yes Yes Yes (Eric Enger Remix),” another upbeat song that reminds me of some of The Killers’ better work. The final (and hidden track), “Hearts and Sleeves,” is also quite good.

All in all, this is a solid debut EP. If you, like me, take guilty pleasure in enjoying musical acts who straddle the line between indie and commercial (the aforementioned Killers and Keane–maybe even Coldplay– are what I’m getting at), you might enjoy this album. Their first LP, which is due out later this summer, should be pretty good.
