A disappointing effort from a band that is capable of much more. The jumbled instrumentals and lyrical irreverence that once made WHY?’s work so unique and emotional relevant went just a bit too far on this album. It seems that the confidence that Yoni Wolf gained in working on Serengeti’s last albums has been mistakingly applied to his own rapping ability. While the production and instrumentation is the most complex that it has ever been, the songs do not fit together and Yoni’s verses can seem as intolerable as Flobots at times. The beats and rhythms are still solid and the lyrics are still fun and unique, but they amount to no real musical expression. Maybe this will be looked at differently in the future, but for today I will call this album skippable.
