Maïa presents herself as a surprisingly original addition to the girl pop genre. She sings and plays most of the instruments, including accordion, violin, and that plinky toy glockenspiel that irreversibly locks in a cutesy sound that matches the album packaging. Softly, lightly, she comes out with some very touching compositions that seem to overtake the few upbeat and happy tracks on there. Of course, it all comes down to that kind of indie pop music. But Maïa will string you along, and you’ll let her, because she so cute, ugh. The French! The xylophone! Auuagh!
