The Crack Up - Get A Life

review by breid
Friday, April 30th, 2010

An impressive debut release by local folk/experiemental-rock Burlington band The Crack Up. Filled with emotional, poetic lyrics with Jeff Tweedy-esque vocals. Songs are really elevated by chaotic guitar riffs & drums. Highly recommended!

Second release by the icelandic indie pop Seabear, as a septet. Incorporates catchy and soft melodies with some indie folk, and orchestral string accompaniment.

A collaboration between cellist Ben Sollee and singer/songwriter Daniel Martin Moore. They blend influences of bluegrass, folk, and pop, into one enjoyable record.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Beat The Devil’s Tattoo

This is Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s first release with their new drummer Leah Shapiro. (Formerly of Dead Combo, and toured for The Raveonettes.) You may already be well acquainted with this band, but is is a nice release of garage, psych, and fuzzy sounding rock music.

A dark concept about written about the bands experiences in L.A. Garage, post-rock, songs that range from more mellow/sparse to aggressive/chaotic.

Local Natives - Gorilla Manor

California rock quintet, led by 3 lead singers, needless to say plenty of vocal harmonies. Lots of emphasis on melodies, complemented by some occasional in-your-face beats. Very cool release!

A pleasant indie pop rock album, with very clear classic rock influence. Hook heavy &
lots of group vocals.

The Art Musems - Rough Frame

review by breid
Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Debut full length from Bay Area duo, and newest addition to the Woodsist label. This is
filled with lo-fi, psychedelic, art rock. They use a lot of “hand clap” beats, but swear
they would make hi-fi music if it was in the budget.

Indie pop. Fun songs, pretty easily digestable, catchy, upbeat.
